ANNOUNCEMENTS

Anthony Edward “Ed” DeMain Jr. passed away peacefully, Friday, May 16, 2025, in Waterville. The eldest child of Anthony and Mary Catherine DeMain, born in Youngstown, Ed attended Immaculate Conception grade school, where his love of sports began.

Ed was a proud graduate of Youngstown East High School, Class of 1965, where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball, making all-city football in 1963. He was inducted into their athletic hall of fame in 1999. He played in the Pony League World Series two years in a row and played Class B baseball for powerhouse McAuley Awnings.

Ed never hesitated to boast about his East Side roots and his family’s business, DeMain’s Royal Oaks Tavern.

Ed received athletic scholarships in both football and baseball from Bowling Green State University.

After graduating from BGSU, Ed went on to become a longtime social worker for the juvenile justice system and a probation officer in Northwest Ohio. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Whitehouse later in life.

A huge Indians and Browns fan throughout his life, you could always find him with a baseball or football pool, handwritten, of course, in his pocket if you wanted to have some fun and make a quick buck or two.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Ann (Martin) and her husband, Robert; and brother, Thomas.

Ed is survived by his brothers, Henry (Karen Palazzo) and Bobby (Lisa); his sons, Anthony III “Tony” (Kristin), Michael (Jennie) and Kevin; and well as his grandchildren, Andrew, Megan and Hannah.

A private family celebration of life for Ed will take place this summer in Youngstown.

Donations in Ed’s honor can be made to the Whitehouse Fire Department, 10550 Waterville St., Whitehouse, OH 43571; and / or Heritage Village of Waterville, 555 Anthony Wayne Trail, Waterville, OH 43566

Ed’s family would like to give a huge thank you to Lance Arebaugh, and to his former wife, Kate, and her husband, Dr. John McGreevey, for all their help along the way.
