John “Jack”” Moran

John Moran, III, DDS Obituary

John J. “Jack” Moran, III, DDS, 73, of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at his residence after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on December 4, 1951, in Youngstown, Ohio and was a 1970 graduate of Ursuline High School in Youngstown. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1974 and The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1977. He began his professional career in Springfield, Ohio, where he practiced for a short time. He then moved to Sandusky and established his dental practice, John J. Moran DDS, and served the community as a dentist for many years.  Even after selling his practice to Dr. Crowley in 2019, Jack continued treating patients at Crowley Family Dentistry until recently, because caring for people was simply part of who he was.

He was a member of the Sandusky Rotary, Plum Brook Country Club, the American Dental Association, the Ohio Dental Association, the North Central Ohio Dental Society, and a former member of the Sandusky Jaycees. He was an accomplished golfer, loved Notre Dame football, and found great joy spending time with his grandchildren. He also devoted many hours to woodcarving and treasure hunting, pursuits that reflected his patience, curiosity, and love for creating lasting memories.

He is survived by two daughters, Jamie (Scott) Kirby of Columbus, Ohio and Katie (Rocky Orlando) Moran of Golden, Colorado; two grandchildren, Brooke and Willow Orlando; one sister, Maureen Dunick of Worthington, Ohio; one brother, Pat (Kathy) Moran of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean M. Moran in January of 2025; his parents, John J. Moran, Jr. and Kathleen (Murphy) Moran; brother Kevin Moran, and brother-in-law Chuck Dunick.

At Jack’s request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be announced later.

Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky has been entrusted with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sandusky Rotary, P.O. Box 717, Sandusky, OH 44871 or https://www.ismyrotaryclub.org/Donation/?BID=273&Embed=N&Style=Cards.

I'm so sorry to hear about Jack. He was one of the St. Pat's/ Hubbard boys. We went to grade school and high school together. We hung out a lot in high school and I have very fond memories of those times. Our dads worked together at Commercial Shearing and our parents would occasionally go out together. Rest in peace Jack!

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Jack Moran's passing. I know he had been suffering, but this is a very sad surprise. Among those of us in his close group from Hubbard, he was always so much fun to be with. We lost a great guy. It really hits home when we lose somebody close. It reminds us that the days are counting down for all of us. RIP, Jack.
