School Story

I had to work lots of hours through high school with paper routes and McDonald's on McCartney Rd. (Junior and Senior years) to pay for my tuition and assist with my sister's. Father Ashton even had me work at the convent during school breaks! Other than marching band, I wasn't a very social sort. I didn't have a car until I bought a new 70 Mercury right after graduation.

Funny Story: Just before my freshmen year, my father went and signed me up for band and actually brought home a school Tuba for me to learn. Tom Foley was very patient with me that first year as we were the only tuba players on the field! He taught me how to swing the tuba as we marched but told me not to blow a single note!! My son Andrew was in band for 4 years and in his senior year he made Drum Major. Allison was on Drill Team all 4 years...being Texas we traveled to many competitions those 6 years! I'd say my favorite teachers were Mr. D'Angelo, Mr. Marsco and Father Petruniak. I seldom get back to Youngstown, have never attended a reunion and haven't visited UHS since graduation. So I'm looking forward to our 40th Reunion!
